wanted to make some valentines treats and have been dying to get working on crafting the perfect shortbread recipe. of course i turned to ina. and, with a little tweaking (i had to add some more butter and i obvi added dark chocolate chunks), i think i had a pretty good first attempt! oh and duh they're heart shaped... i was unwilling to compromise on that. :)

sooo i went to the farmer's market all by myself on sunday (like a true grown-up), and went a little crazy with the squashes. then, today, i of course turned to Martha for recipe ideas. this is the one i chose-- so simple and SO yummy. i added one of the pattypan (my favorite) squashes that i bought to the mix for some color and variation. plus, i used whole grain lasagna noodles and low fat cheeses. guilt free and delicious dinner = the best => lunch tomorrow is set and done.

as i was searching for a permanent earring option (as i generally have no interest in changing earrings, or even taking them out for sleeping), i of course hit up etsy for some tiny gold posts. in doing so, i stumbled across this deliciously sweet shop by ravit schwartz. based out of zichron-yaakov (in the mountains of israel where my entire dad's side of the family lives), she creates the most adorably delicate little necklaces and earrings. the metals she uses have a sort of beaten patina, making them super unique and wonderfully layerable. not to mention the tightly bundled wire she uses as charms. truly enjoyable! like a light dessert but that you WEAR.

dejarnette, a jewelry company out of new orleans makes some of the sweetest little pieces. i discovered them in my weekly minneapolis picks email newsletter. what whimsical little treasures! they teeter on the fantasy/surreal/childhood storybook borders. (anyone who's seen my artwork knows i am a sucker for this place where these worlds meet... ...with maybe a little sinister action happening at the same time... but i digress...) this here is how you make imaginative art and fashion come together. i love that it is on such a small scale. it just shows, you don't have to go grand to make your imagination come alive.

oh, and yes, those are letters encased in that pendant that can say whatever you want (a secret?), and you do see a feather and baby's breath (my favorite piece) encased in those glass beads. excellent, no??

WHEN the weather gets cooler and fall is approaching (you know, in like 5 months when i might be ready for it...), i have a simple footwear transition solution. as in, i am not going straight from my espadrilles to boots as we teeter on the thermostat between 50 and 60. i've always said i was going to do socks with heels, but i think, now that i have done some research, that i understand how to approach this science... i need:

1. trouser socks that can be slouched.

2. sturdy shoes that have some kind of t- or ankle strap so my feet don't fall out of them when i put slippery socks on (a mistake i made before).

3. it's a good thing i can get the best of these with my discount at my NEW job with J. CREW. bout time? yeah, i know, i thought so too...

tomorrow is my last day at my current job location. i am sad to leave. being a promotion, leaving is a good thing, but i will never be that person with the hard exterior that doesn't get attached to the people they work with everyday. won't happen. they become like family, almost. you love them, you hate them, you fight, you disagree, you make up, you eat together, ... i mean, right??

anyway, that is the world of retail. this lack of stability makes me sometimes think that it isn't for me. BUT, i do believe this next position will be a good one. and for now, this works. after tomorrow, i look forward! here i come!!!

i did it again. i got lost in the fog of daily activities that make me breeze through 2 beautiful months of summer and not even realize it. not okay. i live for summer. plus i spent a good couple months wishing for summer, and not enjoying each day.

it's time for me to remember that the work i do is not what i am. i can't get mad at barf weather on my couple days off. i need to do things besides work and work out and eat. i make jewelry. people like it. i have friends getting married and i want to help. i like going out. i love being outside. i love fashion. i love traveling. i love sewing, drawing, painting, getting dirty... and i like blogging! so there. from now on i am going to be less predictable! i am going to do what i want with who i want and not wait until a week of p.t.o. to rediscover some of the things i really like to do. one thing you can predict, though: i will blog about things i like! yayyy! let this be the last haitus!

This is such a cute idea. It popped up on my weekly Minneapolis Picks email. These are cute little reusable water bottles... but for grown ups! Who doesn't struggle with finding a reusable water bottle that fits in with their general charisma? And I can't even drink out of a Nalgene without spilling half its contents down my front. These Love Bottles are cute, earth-friendly and buying them helps get clean water to people who don't have it (lots of info on their site). Furthermore, you can buy anything from more bottle toppers to colorful bands and clings to decorate your bottle--- even a little bottle brush! In 2 sizes, so cute, so many options... what a lovely gift idea!

This is a new fave of mine, especially after work. (Plus, I pretty much love these a+f super cheap pants bc the legs stay down when I go to sleep. I'm a baby, and always freezing.) I saw a picture of a rapeseed field on a new blog that I love, DesignSquish. I have been thinking a lot lately of summery fields. So I love the artwork featured by It Looks Good to Me. I find myself with a very similar fondness of small drawings that pack their own punch; ones that have their own whimsy in that they came out onto the paper in a hurried attempt to capture some imaginative thought. This is how I draw. Plus, I am always looking for ways to incorporate fashion illustration into my crazy childish imagination. Annnnnd.... now I feel like drawing. Forever?

I think Calypso St. Barth does a wonderful job of offering between-season clothing. So many Minnesotans skip straight from shorts and tanks and frilly summer dresses to jeans, chunky sweaters and boots. Why can't we have the in-between? Add a leather belt and hefty scarf to an airy summer dress.... or an oversized sweater to shorts and a tee. This is the beginning of fall wear I can get on board with.

I am trying to master the use of Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray to reclaim the waves my hair used to have before I became a blondie. It surely is a work in progress, but from today (day 1), this seems like a very promising product!!! (Plus, I love the rubbery scuba-suit material [yes, seriously] that the bottle is made out of.)

I really enjoy l'etoile magazine's friday artist pick this week. Katy Horan has a really delicate, detailed way of combining sort of a Native American influence with imaginative narratives. I especially LOVE her use of lace in her works on paper. But I also love her little made up ritual paintings.

my friend kelli told me i had to go to sephora and check out benefit's new fragrance: laugh with me leelee. but of course she is me! leelee is part of the trio of girlie fragrances living on crescent row. each girl has a personality and a story. the fragrances come in their own little "apartment", complete with a roof that lifts off and a front door that lowers down to reveal the bottle. very precious. and, although i will always love my miss dior cherie, very reasonably priced. oh, and not to mention, absolutely delicious!!!! check benefit's leelee out here.

i fell absolutely in love with tracy feith's go international line at target this spring. now that it's all over (frown), i still can't stop thinking about his bloomer shorts and am dying to find/make a pair of my own. I found these adorable ones on Etsy, from seller dreamsandoutfits.
